DSNSW compliance and enforcement activity report:
April-June 2024
For the April to June 2024 quarter, Dams Safety NSW (DSNSW) compliance and enforcement activities have focused on:
- Dams above the safety threshold (A safety threshold is a benchmark for assessing the level of risk to public safety. DSNSW prioritises compliance and enforcement activities on dams with a risk rating above a safety threshold to ensure dam owners are taking appropriate steps to reduce dam safety risks).
- Annual Dams Safety Standards Reports
- Risk Reports
DSNSW Compliance Staff visited 14 dams in 8 local government areas to audit compliance with requirements relating to Operations and Maintenance Plans, Emergency Plans and Dam Safety Management Systems.
Annual Dam Safety Standards Reports were due for all declared dams on 31 March 2024. Dams Safety NSW has sent 86 reminder letters after the March due date, and issued 30 Section 15 Notices (issued when the due date in the reminder letter has passed) to dam owners yet to submit their reports. At 30 June 2024 DSNSW had received 90% of all Annual Dam Safety Standards Reports.
Reminder letters have been sent to 131 dam owners with Risk Reports due in 2024. Dams Safety NSW has issued 11 Section 15 Notices for overdue Risk Reports and is currently following up on 21 Risk Reports that were received however deemed non-compliant with legislative requirements.
